I loved my 87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I drove it for 13 years and over 140,000 miles with very few problems. The turbo 4 cylinder was peaky, making it a challenge to drive well, but that is why I ordered mine with a five speed manual transmission. The automatic was very disappointing. I found the car to have balanced handling and truly a blast when the 240 foot pounds of torque hooked up. Driving it through the Rocky Mountains or the Sierra Nevada was a marvelous experience since the car never seemed to run out of power even at altitude, and the acceleration was astounding regardless of terrain. My 9-3 replaced it when I moved to Germany and I sold it to a college student.
