Saab is treading thin ice hewing to the GM incentives party line. This includes:
1. Discounted leases and big incentives to move product, instead of actually building superior product. Killing resale value does not build good brand image.
2. Building product that hits the mark but does not exceed the mark. GM has always been a day late and a dollar short on many things -- it has taken them this long to get a world class platform in place (epsilon), but that platform, while terrific, is not better than others that have been in place for a long time in the market (e.g., BMW 3-series, VW/Audi Passat/A6/A4 platform). Carmakers make a splash by leading the market, kind of like a QB leading a receiver or a marksman leading a target.
3. Being so scared of torque steer bad press they underpower their cars, and fail to develop AWD platforms to handle better power.
