I always do the math.
The most reliable way to do this is to reset the trip odometer at your next fillup. Fill up to the first "click" of the gas nozzle. Then, at the fillup after that, note how many gallons of gas go into your car up to the first click of the gas nozzle.
Divde the trip odometer reading by the gallons, and hyou have average MPG for that tank.
Reset trip odometer and repeat.
It's not perfect, but I never found the SID readings to be terribly accurate compared to this method.
