Dunno. On one hand, you're right, at 20K, it's probably pessimism. But at 90K, it's completely realistic. For a long time, the almost universal concensus on the more predictable red DI was about 100K average life. It wasn't really a major point of contention. There's been debate about the black DI, but no matter where you come down on the issue, there's no basis to think it'll average more.
One on hand saves the rest of the costs, too...downtime or tow, parts markup, and some dealers have even charged diagnostic fees on top of labor ...all of this effectively doubling (or more) the cost of the event.
Of course, if the service records show it was replaced, though, you may want to skip it for awhile. If you're going to get this car YOU NEED THE ACTUAL RECORDS! Not just her word, it's not really worth that price without the stack of paper (then it gets closer). Good luck!
