Engine rpm increases when R to N

I've been noticing a new feature of my car as of late, when I put it into reverse (auto box), back out of my parking spot at work, then go to neutral, the engine increases rpm's more than normal, to about 1500 or so, then backs down. I never put my foot on the gas pedal. I know when I engage the transmission into reverse, the throttle opens up a bit to compensate for the torque, so it seems that if I only go into reverse for a couple of seconds, the engine still keeps the rpm's up for a couple more seconds. Never used to do this, even after the rough idle rpm increase software fix. Otherwise the cars runs perfectly. Thoughts anyone?
