numbers are not always what they seem to be

With a 30 HP boost, perhaps it might be 3-4 tents of a second, but would that make you buy it before trying it? Sometimes the numbers do not tell the real story of how much more flexible the car is. I happen tothink that the Aero, as a highway acceleration car, is a lot quicker than other cars with similar 0-60 times. On the highway,I have stayed right with a BMW 540i,which has a 0-60 time of about 5.9-6.0 seconds,or almost a full second faster than the Saab. This is especially true with a stick where having to avoid shifting down to get full acceleration might mean shaving a second off of a timed run.
I had a chance to drive the Hirsch modified 305 HP version of the aero and found it less tractable and worse in city driving than my 2002 Aero auto. The stick was balky( like all Saab sticks) and the car could not put the power to the ground without making both front tires hop wildly.
I cannot see making this purchase choice on the numbers alone. Also, if you are out of warranty it is one thing, but if you are within warranty, why modify it and void your warranty? Especially now that some forms of long term sludge damage might be covered. If you were to have that problem and also have a modified engine, you can be sure that your warranty claim would be under the microscope.
