With a manual trans, you'll have to replace the clutch at some point. The one on mine went at 95K miles, and replacement at my local independent Saab shop cost $1000. But the car came off a lease from someone in Chicago who chugged along in traffic every day, so it is to be expected that the clutch would go at such low mileage.
Otherwise, the trans is considered bulletproof. It is smooth, the shifts are silky, and in 5th, you are doing around 2300 rpm at 70mph, which gives me 30+ mpg. I feel I have a lot more control of the car, and couldn't fathom having a lovely Saab LPT motor in front of a computer chip shifting for me.
