I've been driving 36 years with a bunch of cars, and the DI failure in traffic that my 9-5 had at 21k miles (which left me standing out in the middle of the passing lane diverting traffic so I wouldn't get creamed from behind) is the best reason that any car has ever given me not to buy another one.
As for buying an inferior car, my 9-5 is still under warranty and failures include the DI, the throttle body twice, the turbo, plus PCV mod and head bolt retorque for oil leaks. I'm worried about buying something inferior to that? Sure, any model can have a lemon, but every one of these failures is reported here repeatedly.
I don't even care who pays for the repair - I'd rather pay than lose the time and have the safety exposure.
I think you Saab lifers ought to realize that the rest of the world isn't going to tolerate features like the DI - check out Saab sales figures. As for it being like flaws on any other car - I've never experienced anything like it, and neither has any non-Saab owner I've discussed it with.
