Don't know if it helps but I own a 95 9000CS converted to FPT (Aero auto ECU and BPC) and a 99 9-5SE 2.3L (auto also). The 9000 takes a bit to get going (heavy foot required) but just keeps on going while the 9-5 is quite genteel off the line and slowly builds up steam; unless you are in the 'sport' mode and then it is more exciting to about 3000 rpm where it seems to peak. Not as much umph in the mid rpm as the 9000 but really don't miss that as, when you need it is generally there. (Going over the ridges west of DC on 70 where you have to pass the guy ahead who has seemingly either died or fallen into a coma and doesn't realize that it does, in fact, require more pressure on the gas pedal to go against gravity is my example.) Suspension is soft but talk to Nick at genuinesaab.com for a set of sway bars from the Aero to help in the curves. Soft feeling, but by god, it really goes where you point it. It just isn't as crisp as the Aero set up I had in my 92 9000. The 9-5 may well be a better basic suspension, even on the relatively soft 99 model, than the 9000CS (yes, I have Aero springs and 16" Super Aero wheels on it). Working on getting a set of Aero springs and shocks for the 9-5...

Points to consider: check the ACC (Auto and Off) and look for codes. 8 is bad. There is a cheaper fix (thesaabsite and others) but haven't done mine. Dealer or indy wants about $2000 for that repair. Timing chains are of lighter construction than the 2.3 in the 9000 and have the same failings. Saab still hasn't figured out the PCV issue but the last one (before they recinded it) fixed my smoke on start up problem. Mine came with a number of instrument lights out. My penance on New Years Day was the removal of the dash and instrument cluster to get at the bulbs. A number of them and a tad pricey too. SID problems abound but are fixable with an clothes iron and some luck. The lights DIY saves about $300, the SID repair saves $600ish. Oh, get all the keys for it! That is another adventure if you have only one!

Good car overall. Looking for a second to replace the 9000CS. V6 this time! Did get a chance to look into the engine compartment of a V6 and an I4. Lots more room it seems in the V6 to work!

Have fun!
