Center position unless I need to carry a passenger back there as well or...

I'm entering a time of year I hit twice per year. My commute, with my 2.5 yr. old, now goes for roughly 24 miles directly into the sun on the way home. The highway (Long Island Expressway) is fairly straight for that distance. This lasts for about three weeks and then the sun angle has changed enough that it's not a problem. But twice a year for about three weeks we have the sun setting directly ahead.

I can deal with it having invested in quality polarized sunglasses but obviously my daughter catches the full brunt. I've not allowed that to happen by moving her over to behind the passenger front seat altho there's enough deviation in the direction of the road that that's not completely effective. So I've also found by draping my coat over the passenger front seat and pulling one arm of it across to my chest it acts as a low sunshade. But that ties up one hand and diverts my attention from the road.

Anyone have any other ideas that aren't so jerry-rigged and allow me to keep better focused on the road? I haven't seen any kind of shade for this purpose and am thinking something (a curtain maybe?) suspended between the head rests...or something.
