In addition to taking a big depreciation hit on your Aero, plus first year depreciation and taxes on a new Bimmer, you will find that the two cars are not comparable. The Aero is much roomier, more like a BMW 5. The 3 has no room in the backseat, unless you are a midget or kid, and the trunk opening is quite a bit smaller even though the trunk itself is capacious. The Aero also has a heated back seat, rear cupholders and tray, and rear A/C vent, all of which the current 3 lacks. Both cars are great drivers, but the Bimmer's 6 is a bit smoother and the steering feels a bit tighter. I can't prove it, but I'd bet on the Aero getting away faster at a stoplight than the 330. You didn't mention what kind of tranny you have now, but the manual on the 330 is smooth as butter; I actually prefer the auto on the Aero. I got the sport seats on the Bimmer, which are very comfy and supportive, but I think the Aero seats beat them by a fair margin. Mike Lynch is right that the 05 models may be less in demand when the new 3 hits the streets in a few weeks (it is out in Europe already); dealer cash on current e46 models is around $4k. But whatever you get from the BMW factory you're losing on depreciation, so why bother?
