Any lights before it died? Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Mon, 28 Mar 2005 10:19:33 In Reply to: will not stay on, Tim, Mon, 28 Mar 2005 08:00:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Before it died, did you have any dash lights? Especially the Battery light?
When the engine is running, all of the electrical power is supplied by the alternator. It also recharges the battery. If the alternator isn't working, the car will run on the battery (for a while), until it wears down. Usually you get a Battery light on while driving, indicating that the alternator isn't working. Try turning the key to ON, but don't start it - you should see the battery light. If not, either the light is burned out or the wire to the alternator is broken (or a bad alternator ground), which would cause the lack of charge.
