I guess I'm a "head in the sand" when it comes to the DIC. I don't worry about it, don't carry a spare and do not fear driving into the uncivilized country without one. The "DIC issue" did not factor in any way into this decision to look at other cars. I do not doubt that failures happen, but so do flat tires and I don't drive constantly worrying about this.
Mostly, after 6 years with basically the same car (a base '99 and an '02 Aero), and nothing really new in the '05, I'm thinking I might get tired of it. I'd hate to be locked into a fairly expensive vehicle that no longer excites me. If it turns out I don't like the Impala, not a big loss, it's cheap (relatively speaking)... but then, I'll have to drive an Impala... still not sure if I can deal with this...
My Dad has had a few cars with this engine supercharged 3.8L, and it seems bullet proof. Yikes... am I actually considering a car with an engine my Dad has owned?!?
A little concerned about a newly designed Audi from a reliability perspective. BMW 5s are too expensive, 3s are too small. Not a big fan of MB or Japanese sedans. Still might end up with a Saab.
