I own a 2000 Aero so I have a vested interest in keeping the price up. KBB.com says $8k in trade at "fair" condition, not because the vehicle is in fair condition, but because the market is in fair condition, especially with the high miles.

In my capacity as a used Saab manager, I would swallow very hard putting $8k into a 9-5 Aero in trade. Stick, with 90K, are two big strikes, but maybe if it was really nice....

I like to reference a reasonable trade in value if you're selling it yourself as somebody might make you an offer you thought was too low and then you compare it to a trade in value and you say gee, that's a couple of thou' more than a trade in.

Higher mileage cars, especially nice ones, kinda' lose their luster if traded in. They generally sit outside and don't get the appropriate black car care and they lose their enthusiastic, knowledgeable owners. Dunno' for sure but likely the person who stretches to afford your car is probably impressed with your lifestyle too. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

If you have the time, space, energy and so forth to try and sell it yourself why not? Some dealers, like me, will give you a trade option. We would guarantee you say $7,700, in 2-4 weeks if you couldn't sell it your self by then. Your Saab dealer might be a good resorce, although dealers don't like older higher mileage cars. Fish around for the local high-line guy with older Mercedes, BMWs, Volvo's and Audis. Many of these dealers are finding Saabs to be good merchandise. Some will consign, which means you can park it on their lot and let them worry about it for an extra $1-2-3k more than actual trade in value as they won't have to risk investing in it.
