Same thing happened to my '85 4 Dr Turbo...

I had retrieved the keys to unlock the house by clumsily actuating the clutch with my right foot to engage reverse w/o getting in the car and only partially engaging reverse. I never used the parking brake because it would stick. Half hour or so later I was near the bottom of my driveway doing yardwork when a strange sound began and quickly got louder. I thought my 3 y.o. had pointed the Big Wheels down the driveway (175' long and a pretty good grade) from the sound of it as my back was to the sound. I bolted to dive in front of the runaway toy but as I turned towards the sound was horrified to see my 900 going 10-15 mph edging off the drive into the woods. The sound was underbrush thunkity-thunking on the floor pan. My thoughts turned to my daughter who I spotted atop her Big Wheels at the top of the drive and then to the road, worried someone was about to come down my street and get clobbered. That was not to be, though. A 100' 15" diam pine brought it quickly to a stop with about $4K in damage. I had no collision on it so I drove it for a few months with the trunk sealed with expanding foam and parted it out. I looked at the gash on the tree for about a week before reshaping it into a stump with a chainsaw.
I feel your pain.
