CAVEAT: I am not recommending that you do this. If you proceed you do so at your own risk.
That said, the old trick for cleaning up valve deposits (and piston-top deposits to a lesser extent) was to suck water into a running engine via a small vacuum line. You get huge clouds of steam out the tailpipe and have to work the throttle to keep the engine running, but after a pint or so of water that engine is CLEAN. I don't know about the V6 specifically, but on the 2.3 there is a small vacuum line below the throttle plate on the throttle body - that's where you'd do it.
An advanced version of this is to use something like Lubro-Moly's Ventil Sauber. I believe they recommend you suck it directly into the engine via vacuum line. Again, this is designed to clean the valves primarily.
Techron is designed to clean the fuel system, particularly the injectors. To do so you have to put it in the tank. If poor fuel economy is caused by deposits, they are probably in the injector tips. If you think you have valve or piston deposits, the direct injection of cleaners into the engine can be useful.
