This will no doubt horrify the purists among you, I decided to change the timing belt and tensioners myself as I felt that the $750 the dealer wanted was rather expensive for what seemed a fairly simple job. I zeroed out the engine and put my own reference marks on the cams and crank. I also noted the position of the tensioner cams. I did not use the GM/Vauxhall tools to lock the cams. I cut a shim to fit between the cam sprockets and used a set of small locking grips to VERY LIGHTLY lock the cams together, I used a generic crank locking tool, althought this is not necessay if you let the engine sit for 30 seconds at 3mm or so before TDC and then set the crank to TDC. I reinstalled everything as per the WIS, and used the original tensioner cam position as a starting point the set the tension on the lower guide roller. When I checked the belt tension between the number 4 cam and the lower guide roller I could just rotate the belt though 90 degrees. After setting the upper guide roller and tensioner per the WIS and after rotating through two revolutions everything lined up, and I had the requred 2mm between the tensioner marks. Bulldog paper clips work well to hold the belt on the cams and tensioners during assembly. Total cost was $353 for the belt kit ( saabnet.com) $30 for a new serpentine belt and $35 for the roller. I also replaced the water pump and crank oil seal at the same time. Took me under 4 hours and that included two beer breaks.
