Mechanically the 02 and the 04 are identical, 'cept that the 02 doesn't have the shift paddles on the steering wheel and the 04 is missing the weather band on the radio and some other pidly stuff. But the 04 has a way cooler front and rear look, a more aggressive front spoiler with projector beam (useless) foglights and a rear facia with a mock difuser. Also the 04 5 spoke wheels are way easier to clean.

It's likely the dealer can't be talked down much below $35k. Other posters (see below, scroll down) have been trying to buy similar cars and are finding the "wall of cost" around $33.6k and a little. Dealer salesmanagers would rather have stale inventory than show red ink in the profit book, so you may offer a "fair" price according to the price guides, but the dealer won't sell you the car. They'll just wait until someone not so savvy comes along and likes the car and is bouncing off the $44k sticker on a new one.

Also, very likely, no actually certainly, to make the cost $33.6-$35k ish, the dealer had to report the car sold starting the warranty clock, likely on 11/30/04, the last day for the massive '04 9-5 incentives. It may never have had an owner and be "new" in that sense, but the warranty clock has started.

BTW, $18k for an 02 with 50k is a steal, about what a dealer would pay at auction for a nice car. So get it checked out and go for it.

All the cool people drive SportWagons.........
