I have one of those "high line luxury cars" (Toyota Sienna :) with "intelligent" cruise control. It's more annoying than intelligent. A car cuts in front of you, and it slams on the breaks to get back to it's pre-determined distance (where I might normally just let off the gas and coast until a safe distance is regained). It slows down long before I would when driving (often braking, instead of coasting) when approaching a slower moving vehicle (and I make it a point not to tailgate). It does work nicely on a lightly traveled highway when the traffic in front of you is going a few mph slower than your set speed. Otherwise, it's too abrupt in it's speeding up and slowing down.
Maybe in another 10 years they'll get it right (or not).
