I used to be a frequent reader of the posts here, and if anyone can help me I'm sure it's one of you. Here is the history:
At the outset, let me say that I am nuerotic about turning my case cap until it clicks several times. A loose gas cap can't be the cause of these problems.
My check engine light (on a 2000 Saab 9-5 with about 50,000 miles) went on last May. It would go on for a few days, off for a few days with no pattern.
I brought it to Saab, but since it was off they said they couldn't help me because the code was not stored. The problem popped up every few weeks.
I brought it back in November after it stayed on for an extended period of time. They said it was a misfire code. They cleared it and said I should be ok.
The light went back on after a week. It also started flashing. I brought it back in December. They said it was another misfire code and I had a bad DI cassette. They replaced it and said I should be fine.
Light stayed off for a few months, then in april of this year it went back on and was flashing. The next morning the car would not drive more then 10 miles an hour. I brought it in and they said it was the DI cassette again. The assumption is that the one they gave me had a problem and went bad.
Two weeks later, the light went back on. Saab asked if they could have the car for an extended period of time. After a week, they are now saying it the code is for a "serious evaporative leak", but that they checked and I do not have any such leak. The only caveat is that I have almost a full tank of gas and the test is better run with a half tank. I am making another appointment in two weeks so I can bring it in with less gas, but thay are already telling me that the problem that is causing the check engine light doesn't really exist. They cleared the code but I know it's just going to go back on within a week or so.
Very very frustrating. The light has been on for the better part of a year and has been serviced 5 times already with no solution. If anyone has experienced anything like this or has any suggestions, they would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
