The WISDOM of this Board - Tensioner arm, 2.3lpt engine Posted by CrNiFe [Email] (#408) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CrNiFe) on Mon, 30 May 2005 09:42:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Praise the wisdom of the board!
Back in January, when I started to hear the squirrel in the cage at the right front side, I researched this board to determine potential causes. I went to the local dealer and said, let's move the 96k km (60k mile) service session up a bit, and change the Serpentine belt and The Tensioner! As the board says, this saves time, by doing it all at once.
The mechanic came back and said it was one of the idler pulleys making the noise, and just changed the belt to the short version. I could still hear the damn squirrel, but hey, since I didn't actually touch the pulleys myself, I let it ride.
Finally got enough time to take the SW in, to the same dealer, and this time I took the mechanic with me to hear the squirrel. "Well, it might be my alternator or the power steering", he says, but in the end, it was The Tension Arm, and I spent an extra 1.5 hours labour on it.
Damn, and thus I have the Wisdom of the Board reinforced upon my brain one more time...
But I did get him to swap my DI for me with the new spare I was carrying!
Time to become a paying member! The board is too valuable to be free.
