Dear Steve,
5055371 s softer with a lot of dust on wheels and does not last very long. 5392485 is newer and lasts longer and is recommended to be used from 2002 onwards on both 15" and 16" ( Aero) rotors. Less dust. The squeling is not due to brake pads but is due to over tightening of the wheel bolts. It depends, if the dealer has enough stock of the older pads, he would want to finish those before moving on to the newer pads.I think it is better to use the new ones as things improve as time goes by. I had a 98 9-5 SE and then a 9-5 SE (01) and now an 9-5 AERO (04). All along I have used the new pads ( after they become available) and they are definitely better then the old ones (5055371), however, they can still be used but why go for them when you can have the new and better pads, since you are paying, it should be your choice, unless the dealer does not have stocks of these.
Best Regards
Tashfeen
