My 1993 non-turbo 2.0 liter 900 made a lot of tapping noise after sitting unused for weeks. Advice from SaabNet was that the lack of use had caused oil drain down and temporary decrease in hydraulic valve lifter pressures. I ran the car for nearly an hour and the noises went away. Not sure if this could also apply to your 9-5 or my own 1999 9-5.
