My wife and I just returned from the Saab Aero Academy last weekend at Road Atlanta. Everything I have read about it on this board and in Nines is true. It's a remarkable experience.
There were only seven students (including my wife; I went along as a guest). Cass and Beaux were the instructors, both of them are professional race car drivers. Needless to say, the instruction was first rate, many times one student and one instructor per car. I got to ride along for a few of the demonstration runs, and it was amazing to see how these guys can handle a car so smoothly, while probing the limits of traction.
The other amazing thing was how well the Aeros handled the abuse. Temperatures were in the mid to upper 90's, and the cars took everything the students and instructors could dish out, without missing a beat. That being said, I don't think I would want to buy one of those cars as a CPO, especially the silver sedan they used for the skidpad!
The instructors said that relatively few Aero owners took advantage of the Academy. That's a shame, because it was well worth it.
John.
