You've made mistakes in your assumptions.
1. Turbo saves gas at a greater rate than comparable powered NA engine.
2. NA are more reliable. Engineering makes reliability not forced induction.
Like I said, Volumetric Efficiency; the more you understand the more wisdom you'll see in the turbo philosophy.
A saab engine in stock Aero form generates 108.7 hp/liter, and 112 lb/ft torque/liter, at usuable RPM's
A Dodge Hemi by comparison generates 58.8 hp/liter, and 58.7 lb/ft torque/liter, at higher rpms.
At altitude the dodge just gets worse, the saab remains unchanged till 10,000 ft.
A turbo philosophy makes real world sense. Gobs of power where you need it, and horsepower with less internal stress than the engines with 7000rpm plus redlines.-who drives at those RPMS anyway.
If you get on a race track, a turbo is not always beneficial.
