And the '01 9-5 wagon performed flawlessly. Many 80mph 8hr days on the interstate with outside temps around 100F. Passed through 7 states (Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Oregon). Cheapest gas close to home in Fargo, ND at 2.25 for premium. Worst deals around 2.75.
Will report actual mileage and fuel economy soon. Need to add up all the fuel bills.
Picked up $625 US in preventive maintenance parts delivered to my hotel by eEuroparts. New DIC, pulleys, serp belt, fluids, filters, lower ball joints. Need to install soon as the odo turned over 96,000km (60k miles) on the trip. (Yes, I know DI isn't necessarily PM, but I figure I'll put in the new one and keep the old as a spare - that way it'll likely NEVER fail).
Saw lots of cool things along the way. Everyone goes to Yellowstone, but close by is Craters of the Moon National Monument. Not to be missed if you're into bizarre geology. Bring flashlights for cave exploring.
Drove an '05 Aero wagon at Dana Saab in Billings. Looks like Aero suspension is too stiff for the cratered roads we have here, so I won't be putting the sport chassis in my '01, likely just go with new rear shocks and swaybars. The stock shocks at 96k are a little soft when you have three people and the car loaded to the shelf with stuff...
