Hi,

I posted a few days ago regarding my sudden metal grinding engine problem.

I took it to the nearest dealer and after 5 days, diagnosed it as no compression, therefore, it'll cost me 5 grand to replace the engine. It infuriated me since I took very good care of the car with 3K oil changes.

5 days of rental car, towing and diagnosis cost me $330 w/o going further.

Finally I decided to tow it to my indie in West LA to get a second opinion and his diagnosis was bad throttle body, timing belt, rollers, water pump, DIC and new plugs. He tested the engine w/o the belt and the engine sounded fine. (Both my indie and the dealer said no sludge whatsoever).

How can there be two different diagnosis?

Also, I have hard time understanding how I have to replace the timing belt, rollers and water pump after only 30K miles?

DIC and plugs were replaced 2 months ago....and I have to replace them again?

For throttle body, he said it can't be fixed through cleaning because it's the electrical problem.

But his $1,500 estimate (still expensive) is a lot cheaper than $5,000 engine replacement estimate I got from the dealer.

I drive from Sherman Oaks to Beverly Hills to work everyday, not taking the dreaded 405 freeway, but taking the canyon roads.

My question is did my belt, rollers and water pump broke at 30K miles instead of 60K mile interval due to my driving on the stop-and-go L.A. traffic, canyon roads on 100 degrees for the past month?

Thanks for your input...
