They are removable but with much effort. The regular DIY'er probably shouldn't attempt it. You mention the seat going soft. Probably the foam part needs to be replaced. There are several different part numbers available depending if you have a base model or an aero. Best if you went to a dealer or a good Saab shop to help you out.
