I highly suggest the steel bars. they install and come out within 2 minutes. Plus since I have two car seats in the back, I never fold the back seat down, so having the bars means I can stack stuff on the cargo shelf and not worry about it flying out and hitting my kids. the net is harder to see through and is not as safe. Having the guard allows me to actually use the benefit of the wagon. Luggage, strollers, cases of water, coolers, bike trailers, almost everything fits up there. pLus for groceries, all the bread and everything that gets squished goes up top, since we have a stroller occupying most of the bottom half.
