It is my understanding that you need to buy the overpriced Saab 6 disc (maybe the price has come down, I haven't checked, but a few years back my wife almost bought me one for $500 before I stopped her), in trunk changer if you want to control it via the regular radio controls. I'm also pretty sure this requires TechII programming to make the radio "recognize" it.
I have one. It came standard with the Nav system. I like it. It works well, and, so far, has been pretty sturdy in the trunk (not so worried unsecured trunk items smashing against it).
With respect to the low front-end clearance. Just be careful. I think it's an exercise in agony and futility to try to keep it pristine.
