Hissing Noise on Acceleration.....Help!

Hi Everyone, I posted this last month but haven't heard any feedback so I thought I'd try one more time....
'99 9-5SE w/90K
Last month I drove much more agressively than normal since I had some wide-open back roads for once, but the next morning a new noise appeared (don't know if it's a conincidence).
Basically, everything's normal until I need to accelerate. At a certain point a hissing/high pitched grinding noise comes out of the engine compartment towards the drivers side. If I press harder on the gas it goes away. It's only a specific band of acceleration that it occurs in. It seems to be more noticeable when the car is cold, but it doesn't completely go away when it warms up. It's easy to make the sound when I'm going up a hill at a constant speed.
I took it to my indie and he said he didn't know what it was but since there wasn't any smoke and things are running fine otherwise to ignore it. It's driving me crazy though and it definitely doesn't sound healthy. It's definitely not the normal turbo noise, but it appears around the same time you'd hear it spool up.
Any ideas? I would really appreciate any suggestions.
