I recently got a 2000 Aero Wagon. It has the premium system. As far as I can tell, the sedan has two subs to the wagon's one, but otherwsie I think they're the same (yes there's an amp somewhere). A few years ago I had a pile of Rockford Fosgate stuff in an MX5, the stock Saab system is not quite that good, but produces very nice quality sound at volume levels which are plenty for me these days (in my advancing years... :-). I expect the sedan would also have a little bit more bottom end which is slightly missing in the wagon.
Depends what you want, if you want to listen to high quality music, the original premium system is perfect. If you want to go cruising, vibrating the doors off and setting off car alarms when you drive down the road (as seems to be the objective with car audio these days), you should pile some of your aftermarket stuff in there.
