I guess I was hoping there was a more definite answer out there. The car has only 45k miles on it, and its had many problems considering its age (2001). I don't think its a temperature thing. Temperatures are fairly hot here. Its usually in the 70's during the day, it may go to 50 in the evenings. Nothing beyond the car's operating conditions. The spark plugs were replaced in early June because they were mysteriously fouled having been replaced not 6 months (<5000 miles) prior. The car had what seemed to be two problems at that point. The first was a bad turbo which was leaking oil into the exhaust. The second was a timing issue with either the spark plugs or the mass airflow sensor both of which the dealer replaced. The car was running poorly at this point, i was getting a lot of engine knock, and sometimes car startup was reluctant, similar to the current problem. The logs the tech pulled indicated some erratic values for the air intake. I tried to convince them to replace the DI cassette (at the time the vehicle was still on warranty) but the car seemed to be fine. They loaded new software onto the car computer in order to test the DI cassette (apparently older software versions are unable to do this) and verified that it was working properly. They then replaced the turbo and everything was fine until about a month ago when my check engine light came on. The code the shop pulled indicated that i had a bad bypass valve. I reset the code by disconnecting the battery, but the light kept coming on. I bought a replacement hyperboost unit and i haven't had light come on for over a month now. But now i get this problem, and i'm not sure if its related or what. There just seems to be something perpetually wrong with this car. The car is an 01 4dr/lpt/as3/rear heated seats. Everything on the car is stock save that bypass valve, brake pads/rotors.
