US License Plate Frames after Euro Delivery

After a year of driving my 9-5 Wagon in Norway, I'm now back in US waiting for my new Illinois license plates to arrive. When I removed the rear Swedish export plate to install the temporary Illinois tag, I realized that the brackets for these Euro style plates seem to be drilled differently than US style plates. This wasn't a big problem of installng the cardboard temporary tag, but I'm not sure what to do when the metal plates arrive.
Will I need to have new holes drilled for the US brackets? Or is there some way to adapt/attach a US dimension frame to already drilled Euro dimension holes?
Thanks for your help.
