The clutch should catch in the middle third. But it has a very light feel, very different from my former 2 Saabs. Very little pressure needed to let it in or out. I was playing with mine the other day before teaching a new driver (ouch!)... we were able to start on level ground and without touching the gas pedal, gently let out the clutch, and start the car moving slowly and smoothly with no stalling. It could be that the former owner was not partlcularly good with a 5 sp. and wore the clutch plate down, but 40K is pretty young for that to happen. Is there a Saab dealer anywhere near you where you could take a different 9-5 for a test drive to compare?
