Nice theory, Frank, but not true in my case. I have burned only 87 octane.
My service guy says he's noticed an interesting trend: in his experience, the DICs burn out at about 40K or about 70K or not at all. Don't know how scientific his sampling is, but it's an interesting observation.
I think if the DIC was supposed to wear out, our owners manuals would say to replace them at XXXXX miles. I think if the DIC needed a certain octane gas, our owners manuals wouldn't give us options. Saab/GM would gain nothing but ill will from misleading us. Clearly, I think, some units are defective and some are not. And if Saab/GM could tell which were which, they wouldn't be recalling them all.
