I use the old torque specs on the old look-a-like bolts Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] (#112) [Profile/Gallery] (more from SWEDECAR) on Thu, 10 Nov 2005 13:39:06 In Reply to: old style head bolt torque, rpete, Thu, 10 Nov 2005 12:28:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
It seems to be working fine. I have installed those bolts to the right in picture in many cars by now.
One caution though, it doesn't fix the oil leak around head bolt number 8 in all cars.
My guess is that in some engines, the anerobic head gasket sealant have just washed away by the oil leak creating a small void in the head gasket so even with new bolts torqued to old (harder specs, 60Nm, 80Nm and 90°) it is still not enough to compress the gasket and stop the oil leak on all engines.
But it is a good as we can do without lifting the head and replace the gasket.
