Ray, I had a 2001 Maxima SE Stick, and now I have a 1999 9-5 SE.
Although I don't have the Aero, I can still give you a good review of both cars.
The Maxima is a fantastic car. It will always have a special place in my heart. But, the 9-5 is so much more fun to drive! The 9-5 is much lighter, and is handles MUCH better than the Max. The interior just feels better also.
I have never been disappointed with the power of my 9-5 (170HP/210 Tourque)compared to the Max, so I could assume that the AERO would be MUCH better than the Max.
The 9-5 won't be as cheap to own as the Max, but the fun you will have driving it will more than make up for the costs. Plus, everybody and their brother has a Max.....
Either way, they are both EXCELLENT cars. If you still love the Max, try one of the 2003's with the 250HP engine.....it'll feel a lot different than the 2000's 222HP.
Good luck.....
