I too have this problem on my 00 Gary Fisher wagon. I thought the mount was loose until I looked at it and found that the driver side assembly is indeed wobbling as you mentioned. It looks as if the end of the alum assembly has broken off in the tubular brace that holds it, thus allowing it to get pushed up each time the linkage moves the wiper. I'll let you know once I can see what a new part looks like.
Seems like a strange arrangement to me. Don't know why they didn't just bolt it on both sides instead of only the outer side and rely on this tubular brace.
I'd love to hear from anyone else with the same problem and ideally the solution!
Thanks!
Chris
