"Katrina Oil" weirdness....... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Tue, 10 Jan 2006 07:26:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I went to a local auto parts store to order a set of NGK plugs for my upcoming 160,000 mile service and while there I looked at the Mobil oil display.
I discovered that some weights of Mobil-1 had the API synbol on their label, while other weights had a statement similar to "Suitable for use in applications requiring an API certified SJ oil" in place of the API symbol.
But what surprised me was that the Mobil Semi-synthetic oils were 50 cents per quart higher than the Mobil-1 oils! And some of these semi-synthetics were devoid of the API symbol too.
I already have the 5W/40 sitting in my garage, but I may soon switch to Amsoil just because of the prices for Mobil-1. Does anyone know what the discount is for "Preferred Customers" from Amsoil? It costs $10 for this designation, but will I save a dollar per quart when buying Amsoil oil? A case of 12 quarts will last me 9 months or so.
Thanks.
