Anybody install video screens for the rear passengers?

I took a long trip and borrowed a portable DVD player from somebody. The kids enjoyed it but I had an issue with the temporary mounting of the screens. Books work pretty well in the back seat but only for so long.
The video screens were supposed to wrap around the headrest posts and hang on the backs of the front seats. My issue is/was that wouldn't this hurt the active head restraint functionality? Note that these are only active in that they move but they do rely on just mechanical forces to snap the headrest forward in the case of an accident. It seems to me that hanging something over it would affect the behaviour of the anti-whiplash head restraints in a negative way.
If I am correct about the above statement, has anybody installed a video screen or two in the rear of their 9-5? This is a wagon although that should make no difference.
