I know that you're specifically interested in the 4-spd. About the only comment that I can make on it is that per this board, it has been pretty trouble-free, which is the same as the 5-spd (2002+) that I have. An occasional complaint on the board, but the transmission is definitely not a weak point on the 9-5.
I consider my 5-spd an excellent auto.
