1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
know if the lock button on the console is supposed to be illuminated or
not? I've had Saabs for the last 16 years (It all started with a '74 99, then a '79 99, then '85 900 Turbo, etc. And currently own 2 others.
I love the way the Aero handles and I love the cosmic blue color which
looks like the Viggen blue (but not sure if it is the exact same color
as the Viggen was) and I like the seats, compass in the rv mirror & rear
seat heaters. But it kind of stops there. The sound system is no better
than the one I had in the '99 9-3 ! GM didn't make ANY improvements!
Even Chevy's in 2003 had song/artist naming in their stock radios but
GM didn't feel it was necessary in the Saab. You can't access ALL the
preset stations from the steering wheel, only FM 1 or FM 2 but not both- again, other cars have that.
They still don't light up the controls on the steering wheel which I know
someone will say that they do that because it is distracting but I say they do that to save $ because all the other lighted buttons can be distracting then also - like all the heater controls, windows, etc. All those buttons need to be lit and so do the ones on the steering wheel!
You also can't even see a counter for the CD unless you are fast forwarding a song and then it disappears. All kinds of other decks show
time and time elapsed! I wonder if they fixed the LCD display or if pieces of the numbers will start to be missing soon like the 3 that I went
through on the '99 9-3. That 2003 display looks identical to the '99 9-3 so I hope they fixed that over 4 years. I really wanted a 5 spd like most of all my other Saabs had been but 9-5's are hard to find w/5 spds. The Sport mode is quick and peppy but out of Sport mode - it is NOT. I wonder why it doesn't stay in Sport, again another poor design, after you put in park or reverse, etc.. You always have to push the doggone button again! The brake dust is driving me nuts on the wheels also. I could change to the Metalmasters but then I'm told I'll probably get squealing. Oh well, the car looks great and handles awesome so I just have to deal with all the other GM stuff I don't like and hey, it is still a SAAB!
