It's purely a personal preference. I prefer the look of the smoked lenses on the gray car - kind of a monochromatic thing I guess. I'd actually rather have clear lenses on those but the lights might annoy other drivers in which case I wouldn't use them.
Legality - might be a problem in some stages. Not sure. Anyway, the fine for these would be so unlikely and probably minor that it's a risk I'll take. I think I have seen other cars that have them or similar. The bulbs are tinted yellow, by the way, so the lights look the same when they're on.
