Your '03 car has the latest updated software, while the '02 probably has the original DIC drive software. Shouldn't affect performance or fuel economy, though. While there could be anything potted in the plastic, the data given to NHTSA suggests that the 2003 model year hardware is the latest available. In any case, the DIC does nothing more than create a spark when commanded. There has always been car-to-car differences in performance and economy. One car can have slightly more clearance in the bearings, another car might have different gap in the plugs, chaging the ionization potential slightly and thus affecting the trionic timing.
And the wagon has more than 150 lbs. on the sedan.
