2000 9-5 wagon water damage/buying tips?

Hi,
I'm currently looking at a 2000 9-5 wagon 5-speed, 4-cylinder with 71k on it for $6700.. seems like a pretty good price to me.
The catch is that it has a salvage title. We had a big storm here last September and apparently the car wouldn't start after the storm, thus, the insurance company listed it as a salvage. The seller tells me that in Minnesota, any car that is bought by an insurance company and is worth more than $5000 is listed as a salvage.
According to the seller, only the anti-theft device didn't work, and he's replaced it, and now the car runs great, no problems. He also says there was no evidence of water damage.
My question is, how do I tell if the car really WAS significantly water damaged? Say the sunroof was open and the car got a ton of rain in it... could that cause the ignition switch to not work before it dried out? And if it did get a bunch of water on it, would that cause any long-term problems with the ignition/function of the car?
I mean, I guess I'm just wary of it and I assume that I'll be able to get a feeling for the car, the seller, and all that. But is there any more I can go on other than gut instinct?
Plus, mine is a OG900/9000 family, so I don't have any experience with the 9-5.. any buying tips? Things to watch for? Etc?
TIA,
Tim B.
