It is very possible that an idler or tensioner bearing for one of the pulleys failed. The not-so-good news is the V-6 is an interference design which means that the valves may have crashed into the piston(s). Hopefully you are lucky and nothing is bent. If you turned it off as soon as possible, you might be OK. Normally at 60,000 miles the timing belt, idlers, and tensioners are replaced so it should have made it to the next service at 120,000 miles. Let us know what it was? Sludging is not an issue on the V-6.
