It is hard to say about the engine. I just checked car-part.com and saw one with 24,000 for 3000 which is higher miles and more than I paid for mine. 3000. There is a long list that don't have miles or prices listed I would call around.
The shop quoted me 800 for labor plus 200 more to install the transmission. Issues that I forgot to mention were that since I was using a 2003 engine there is an extra tube on the ex manifold for a line for the air pump. The shop wanted to use the old manifolds. I told them no way. I want to use the new turbo. They welded the tube shut, which is not my first choice. I thought just welding the holes and using the older style exhaust gasket would have been a better way to go. I worried that an emissions inspector would give me a hard time. It they looked at the clipped of air pump tubes.
Another issue was the connectors for the sensors on the intake manifold were different so the plenum had to be swapped out. Finally, it threw a few codes initially. Had to reset the throttle body and I suspect they forgot to connect some things properly initially.
BTW: I paid less than 4000 for the car too. I would offer 3k and tell them to pound sand if they won't take that. Good Luck
