They're cooler..... Posted by Mike Lynch [Email] (#81) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mike Lynch) on Sat, 6 May 2006 12:31:44 In Reply to: 9-5 areo arc or linear, bett, Sat, 6 May 2006 05:35:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
All the cool people drive SportWagons......Oh you mean what' the difference between the models...8 model years 99-2006 so basically three versions.
1) Aero, always the 230-250hp 2.3 HOT engine, high output turbo, always the 17" wheels and premium package, 2002 and up got sport seats.
2) SE or Arc V6, ('cept for 1999) an SE is always a V6. 200hp, smoother than the four, a skosh thirstier, V6 cars always have the premium package which includes Harmon Kardon Sound, memory drivers seat, auto dimming mirror. 2002-2003 were renamed Arc V6's. For many the V6 is their favorite. Old Saabers and Saab purists like the fours.
3) 2.3lpt, light pressure turbo, same motor as the Aero, the 2.3 four, but lower state of tune, same fuel economy as the Aero, slightly bette than the V6, premium package optional, 2002 the base 9-5 2.3lpt got named the Linear.
MODEL YEAR MILESTONES
1999, first year
2000-2001, the first SportWagons and Aeros
2002-2003, sweet years, 2002's got a mid-cycle enahancement, slightly nicer looking, slightly better automatic, 5 speed vs 4 speed previously
2004 - 2005 - Arc V6 is no more, the Arc is now a 2.3T with 220hp, not quite but almost a HOT turbo, premium package became optional. Linear model has 185hp 2.3 lpt, premium package not availible.
2006 All have 260hp 2.3HOT
V6 vs 2.3 fours, you could like either. If you're an Aero kinda' person, fat tires, sport seats, stiffer ride (but still quite nice) the sport model, then the choice is made for you, Aeros all have the four. A non Aero kinda' person wouldn't find an Aero objectionable if ones spouse insisted, just sportier, but still quite nice.
