1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I have not heard this term used. Do you mean adding shims or something different?
I have tried very hard to press Saab on this issue. It irks me that they have been 100% non-responsive despite a legitimate safety concern (I had a blowout when the alignment first got so out of whack). I’m also a bit annoyed at the fight I had to mount to get this fixed. I know that some executives read this BB and can fathom that they just let the same problems crop up again and again for many model years. A problem component in 1999 shouldn’t still be an issue in 2006 (we all know about the DI, ok supposedly fixed in 03+, although some still fail). I would like some kind of assurance (just a simply we had a problem and have revised the part would suffice) that I am not going to have the same problem again, more for safety reasons than the cost of the repair. It is still my belief that a fully loaded brand new 9-5 (unless the 06 has been revised) can not be driven too far (say 10K for arguments sake) without having the suspension fail. If true this seams to indicate a design problem somewhere or simply a spec overstatement. I can’t pin down what exactly causes the suspension problems, but owners of vehicle from vintages before and after the 02 redesign report this identical problem. It could be due to some unique compounding circumstances, possible even temperature or road roughness dependant. I don’t know if it is unique to the North American vehicles. Some have a more benign annoying problem, others have one that makes the vehicle basically not truly useable (due to noise, tire wear/cupping, poor handling) until the problem is corrected. Many have gone through a lot of needless aggravation and expense on tires, alignments, etc.
Enough ranting…I’m glad you could make some progress on your car’s problem. Enjoy your summer trip, but watch for any worsening of the rear alignment. Keep the tires pretty hard if the vehicle is loaded.
